Detroiters Rally For The Preservation Of Traditional Marriage Beliefs
DETROIT (WWJ) -- It was a small turn-out for a statewide rally in support of traditional marriage on in Detroit on Saturday afternoon.
About 50 people gathered at Eliza Howell Park for the event put on by the Michigan Pastors National Coalition for Traditional Marriage. Detroit Pastor Rev. Emory Moss was one of the speakers.
"Christians are not going to just lie down and allow the country to be attacked culturally in terms of marriage," Moss said. "We know what marriage is -- it's a relationship between a man and a woman. We love everyone, everyone -- but, we're against homosexuality. So that was really the outstanding message, in fact everyone who got up talked about the love that we have for everyone."
Supporters of same-sex marriage are challenging the state's constitutional ban on gay marriage, saying the ban does not allow for equal protection under the law.
Rev. Roland Caldwell of Detroit, who founded the group which is made up of about 200 pastors, also attended the rally.
"We refuse to sit back and let them redefine marriage, let the Supreme Court or any church or governor to define -- or redefine -- marriage," Caldwell said. "We believe that marriage is between one man and one woman and that the foundation of the family lies on the marriage part of it."
Meantime, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals is expected to rule on the state's ban in the coming days -- after hearing arguments from both sides last week.
