Detroiters Join Together For Breast Cancer Walk On Belle Isle
DETROIT (WWJ) - You can expect Belle Isle to be covered in pink on Saturday, as thousands are gathering to make strides against breast cancer.
Local breast cancer survivors, families, volunteers, businesses and community members will unite to fight breast cancer and save lives at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer five-mile walk on October 15, at 8 a.m.
This non-competitive, inspirational event raises awareness and funds to help end breast cancer by finding cures and supporting programs and services for people fighting the disease.
Everyone is welcome to walk. Unlike other breast cancer events, there is no fundraising minimum or fee to participate in the walk and walk-ins are welcome.
Local teams appearing at the walk include General Motors/Chevrolet, Comerica and Kroger, as well as the Detroit Lions Making Strides team led by survivor Jennifer Arapoff, Lions' coach Jason Arapoff's wife.
The walk will take place on Belle Isle, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at 8 a.m. with a rolling start through 10 a.m.
