Detroiters Get Cash For Guns
Those who sold their guns to the Detroit Police Department during their gun buyback program are turning in their vouchers for cash.
This included Barbara Hollings who was picking up her $50 for a gun she had turned in during the September event. WWJ's Pat Sweeting asked her if she gave in the gun because she had small kids in the house.
"I have grown sons, no kids. No, I just didn't want the weapon and I just turned it in... I might get up set and do something with it, so I got rid of it," she said.
Detroit Police Sergeant Robert Johnson explained why they offers this program.
"This helps the community and the police department engage with one another, and helps to rid crime on the streets of Detroit. It's just one of the components necessary," Johnson said.
Those who have turned in their guns can pick up their vouchers through 5 p.m. Thursday at Second Ebenezer Church.
