Detroiter Is Allstate Give Back Hero
On this Martin Luther King, Junior Holiday, a Detroit woman is being honored as an Allstate Give Back Hero. Glenda Cook is being recognized for her work assisting victims of domestic violence.
For the past 13 years, Cook has been fighting against domestic violence, through her work the Detroit Police Department and the YWCA Interim House, which provides shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
"I've never viewed myself as a hero," said Cook. "But I'm doing work that I have a passion for and I absolutely love."
Cook works with the city of Detroit to build greater awareness of domestic violence and the devastating effect it has on the community. She urges anyone who is a victim of domestic violence to call police and to seek a safe place to live to prevent a tragedy.
Cook is one of four people across the country being honored as exemplary heroes who make a difference by giving back to the African-American Community, in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Junior.
