Detroit Woman To Spend Decades Behind Bars For Setting Apartment Fire
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ/AP) - A judge has ordered a Detroit woman to decades behind bars for setting a fire in a Highland Park apartment building, from which a 64-year-old man jumped to his death four years ago.
Reneco Graus was sentenced Wednesday to spend at least 25 years in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and arson of a dwelling.
Authorities say Graus torched the apartments in 270 block of Richton, between the Lodge Freeway and Woodward Avenue, on May 16, 2010.
According to investigators, Graus set fire to the door of one unit, which eventually spread to more than 40 other units. At least 120 people were living in the 56-unit building at the time.
Resident Raymond Jordan jumped from the fourth floor after firefighters couldn't reach him. He was declared dead at the scene.
Graus wasn't charged in the case until October 2013.
