Detroit Woman Charged With Murder In Apartment Arson
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ/AP) - Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a 34-year-old woman accused of setting an apartment building fire in Highland Park in which a 64-year-old man jumped to his death two years ago.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Tuesday announced the charges against Reneco Graus of Detroit, which include first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder, and two counts of arson of a dwelling.
Graus allegedly torched an apartment building in the 270 block of Richton on May 16, 2010. Worthy said at least 42 units were occupied by over 120 tenants at the time of the fire.
It's alleged that Graus set fire to the door of one unit, which eventually spread to other parts of the building. Worthy said resident Raymond Jordan was forced to jump from the building's fourth floor after firefighters couldn't reach him.
Worhty said more specific facts surrounding the case will be presented at Graus' preliminary examination on Nov. 5.
