Detroit Woman Arrested After Argument With Boyfriend Turns Deadly

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say an argument between lovers ended with a man stabbed to death and a woman in police custody.

The incident unfolded around 6:30 a.m. Thursday at the Heather Hall Apartments on Second Avenue, near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Cass Avenue in Detroit's Midtown area.

According to police, a 59-year-old man and his 45-year-old girlfriend were apparently having an argument inside their apartment. At some point, the man allegedly assaulted the woman -- and she apparently retaliated by stabbing him in the chest.

The man was declared dead at the scene, and the woman was placed under arrest.

Other details weren't immediately clear. Names have not yet been released.

A neighbor who only wanted to be named as "Hank" said he was afraid something like this would happen between the couple.

"I kind of figured it was going to happen because he was beating her, all through the hallways and beating her like a man, I mean knocking her in the face like she was a man," said Hank. "He was abusing her, I mean he was just beating her like she was, I don't know, a pulp or something."

Police would not comment on the abuse claims, but did say investigators are trying to determine if they're dealing with a homicide or possibly a case of self-defense.

An investigation is ongoing.
