Detroit Water Department Adding Parcels To Billing System
DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit's water department says it's adding roughly 20,000 parcels to its system in an effort to make billing more fair and equitable.
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department announced Friday that officials have identified the parcels that contribute to the city's drainage flows but aren't billed for their share of drainage.
The department says newly billed parcels will be charged a rate of $750 per impervious acre per month. Impervious surfaces are roofs, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and other hard surfaces that prevent or limit storm water from soaking into the ground.
The Detroit water department serves more than 200,000 Detroit residential and commercial customers.
