Detroit Vacant Lot To Be Turned Into Veterans Park
DETROIT (AP) - Dozens of volunteers plan to team up to turn a vacant lot in Detroit into a veterans park.
Workers from The Home Depot Foundation, The Mission Continues and Volunteers of America Michigan are to gather Wednesday to work on the project.
The plan is to create a vibrant new green space with landscaping and benches. Volunteers also are to install a flag stand.
The vacant lot is across the street from a building that Volunteers of America Michigan is currently renovating. It will provide a transitional home, job training and other supportive services to homeless veterans.
The facility is to open in November and serve up to 120 veterans each year, helping them transition into civilian life.
