Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan Starts Rolling Thursday
DETROIT (WWJ) - It may be cold and snowing, but baseball fans will feel a slight spring breeze when the annual Detroit Tigers Winter Caravan starts rolling Thursday.
Each year, about a month before spring training begins in Lakeland, Florida, the Tigers go on tour to meet with their fans. For the next two days, players, coaches, broadcasters and even Paws will be making stops throughout metro Detroit.
The caravan kicks off 1 p.m. Thursday at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.
One of the biggest events on the tour is Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Palladium Theatre in Birmingham, where Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Tyler Stohr, Collin Balester, Andy Oliver and Matt Hoffman are scheduled to appear. A highlight video will be shown and fans will get to see the players and even ask questions. Plus, the first 200 guests will receive a free hot dog, soft drink and movie pass.
Right after that stop, the caravan is rolling to Hockeytown Authentics in Troy from 5 to 6 p.m. where Jose Valverde and Brennan Boesch are scheduled to appear. Fans will have the opportunity to take a photo with Valverde and Boesch in exchange for a minimum donation of two non-perishable food items to benefit The Salvation Army.
The caravan also includes stops at The Henry Ford, Detroit Fire Department, Somerset Mall, Michigan State Capitol Building, the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center, Western Michigan University and the Google Offices in Ann Arbor.
Following the Winter Caravan will be the first-ever Kids Convention on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Fox Theatre.
