Detroit Symphony Orchestra Tuning Up For Carnegie Hall
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is tuning up for its first performance at Carnegie Hall in 17 years.
Actually, it will be two performances at the famous New York venue during next month's Spring for Music festival.
The orchestra's first performance will be May 9 and feature Kurt Weill's ballet, "The Seven Deadly Sins." The second comes the next day and will consist of all four symphonies by Charles Ives.
The ensemble said it's the first to be invited to perform two programs during the event.
A send-off concert at Detroit's Orchestra Hall is scheduled for May 7, and will be broadcast live on Detroit's WCRJ-FM.
The General Motors Foundation has provided a $350,000 grant to the orchestra for various initiatives, including the festival.
