Detroit Summer Employment Efforts Get $500,000 Funding Boost
DETROIT (AP) - Efforts to boost summer employment of young people in Detroit are getting $500,000 in funding.
The Detroit News reports the Skillman Foundation is awarding money for the work. Grow Detroit's Young Talent is a collaborative effort with national and local organizations, including the city of Detroit. It places Detroit youths in six-week summer jobs.
A $400,000 grant to the nonprofit City Connect Detroit supports work to provide training to youth, secure job placements and conduct evaluations. The second grant is $100,000 to the Philadelphia Youth Network, which brought an employment portal to Detroit.
