Detroit Police Make Two Arrests At East Side High School
Some scary moments at an east side Detroit high school Thursday afternoon, as police hunted two accused carjackers.
Officials tell WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis that the two suspected thieves ran into the school just after classed had ended for the day.
Detroit Public Schools Police Chief Rodger Grimes explained more about the incident that prompted a lockdown of the building for about an hour-and-a-half.
"DPD officers spotted a vehicle they believed that was a carjacked vehicle. While they were following it, the subjects bailed out of the vehicle and ran toward Finney High School," Grimes said.
Detroit Police conducted a search all rooms and hallways in the building.
"A lot of people ran. They said there was helicopters out here and everything," said one student, who was inside the school when the lockdown occurred.
The two suspects were arrested -- one inside the building and one outside.
Grimes said the suspects were not armed, and he wasn't sure if they were students in the area. Further details about the alleged carjacking and suspects were not immediately available.
No injuries were reported.
