Detroit Rising On WWJ Profiles People Working To Transform The City

DETROIT (WWJ) Thousands of people are working every day to transform and revitalize Detroit, and you met some of them during a WWJ Newsradio 940 LIVE special Wednesday evening.

In Collaboration with ARISE Detroit, "Detroit Rising: The People Working to Transform Detroit" showcased the efforts organizations are taking to grow, nurture and support neighborhoods and businesses across the city.

Here's more information on the organizations featured on the show:

*ARISEDetroit -- Working to create a permanent network of organizations and their volunteers that offer programs that support children and families, this organization's goal is to "promote a greater citizen involvement and community awareness of organizations and services that help a community function better. "

*Warren Conner Development -- This group has been a catalyst for improving the quality of life on Detroit's east side for 28 years. It's the creator of the Eastside Farmer's Market, walking clubs and the largest Head Start program in the area.

*Southwest Solutions -- This group is a leader in providing multifamily rental homes and apartments, and supporting community building efforts in southwest Detroit

*Vanguard CDC -- The non-profit development arm of Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit, this group facilitates, coordinates and ignites education development, economic development and community development.

*Jefferson East Business Association -- The goal: To create a safe, sustainable, and economically vibrant destination district on Detroit's lower east side. The focus is to create an environment conducive to business and residential growth and development.

*Hatch Detroit -- Hatch Detroit was founded on the premise that vibrant and diverse retail is the lifeblood of a thriving urban community, and independent retail serves as a gateway to the broader goal of attracting and retaining residents in the city and region we call home.
