Detroit Red Wings Season Comes To An End
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Hockeytown is heartbroken, after the Red Wings are knocked out of the NHL playoffs.
The Red Wings season came to a disappointing end Wednesday night, as they fell to the Chicago Blackhawks, 2 to 1, in the seventh and deciding game of the Western Conference Semi-Final series. Brent Seabrook scored the game-winner for Chicago... his goal came at the 3:35 mark of overtime.
Watching with fans at Mr. Joe's in Southfield was former Red Wing Darren McCarty, who chose to look at the glass as "half full" after the tough loss.
"If you would have told me before this series started that I'll give you game seven overtime, and whatever happens, happens, I'd take it. It's all a learning experience," says McCarty.
Other fans, without the NHL pedigree, say they're still proud of the team and the Wings had a good run, especially since not a lot of people expected the Wings to make it as far as they did.
One Royal Oak fan saying, "The fact that we got to game seven, overtime in game seven, made it all respectable."
The Blackhawks now move on to face the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Finals, while the Boston Bruins meet the Pittsburgh Penguins in the East -- the four remaining teams in the chase for the Stanley Cup.
