Detroit Red Wings Notes And Quotes

--San Jose was 1-for-6 on the power play. Detroit was 0-for-2. But Wings coach Mike Babcock did not have an issue with the officiating. He felt his team deserved the penalties because the Sharks had the puck for most of the night. He also thought his team was undisciplined -- Patrick Eaves took a slashing penalty late in the third period and Justin Abdelkader received a double-minor for high-sticking in overtime. The Sharks didn't score on either power play, but it wore down the Wings having to kill them off.

--Valtteri Filppula had a disappointing regular season, failing to take his game to the next level, as the team was anticipating. But when Henrik Zetterberg was idled in the first round of the playoffs, Filppula played with more intensity and was rewarded for it with five points. The skilled center has shown the ability to step up in the playoffs. Heading into the second round, Filppula had 41 points in 61 postseason games since 2008. That's an average of 0.67 points per game, better than his career regular season average of 0.47 points per game.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"They're penalties, what are you going to do? You can't take penalties, you got to look after your stick. Could (San Jose) have had a couple more? Maybe. But the team that has the puck the most is going to take the least penalties." -- Wings coach Mike Babcock.
