Detroit Public Schools Aerospace Training Program Auctions Collection Of Engines, Complete WWII Jet
DETROIT (WWJ) - Here's your chance to get a piece of flight history courtesy of Detroit Public Schools' Davis Aerospace training program.
One of the auctions being previewed Monday, June 9 is for a World War II-era jet goes live June 10 at 8 a.m. and runs for 12 hours. According to the description the T-39A North American Sabreliner Jet is not intended for future flight, has no cabin key and has been, "sitting for a number of years."
Another auction set for June 19 will include 22 vintage engines and propellers.
The Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Vocational Technical Center is a public school training program that has approved Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) curriculum as well as a fleet of aircraft owned by the school operated and serviced by students and staff.
The school was started in 1943 as the Aero Mechanics High School and changed its name in 1982.
The auctions are part of a series of weekly auctions that began October 17 to sell excess items from the school system.
Kalamazoo-based Biddergy.com is facilitating the online auctions and to date has netted the school district more than $372,000.
