800Beloved / Skeleton Hands / Belterra
Friday, February 13th / 9pm / PJ's Lager House, Detroit
You may not be familiar with 800Beloved, the post-punk band from Milford, Michigan, but that's not to say they don't leave a lasting impression. See them live at the Lager House, along with local electro artist Belterra and Cincinnati's minimal wave duo Skeleton Hands. Cover is $7, and the show is 21+. Find more information here!
Playground Twist / Psycho Honey / This Broken Machine
Friday, February 13th / 8pm / Small's, Hamtramck
If you're into tribute bands, here come some of the finest Metro Detroit has to offer. Playground Twist will play as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Psycho Honey will play as Jesus and Mary Chain, and This Broken Machine will play as Nine Inch Nails…so if you're into alternative rock, this show is for you. A Blue Valentine's Day
Saturday, February 14th / 8pm / The Magic Bag, Ferndale
A different approach to celebrating Valentine's Day, Detroit's own The Blueflowers present A Blue Valentine's Day to "take the heartbreak to the next level." They will be performing alongside other Detroit bands, Blaire Alise & The Bombshells, and Misty Lyn & The Big Beautiful. Tickets are $10 at the door and the show is 18+. Find more information here!
Love & Hip Hop Saturdays
Saturday, February 14th / 7:30pm / The Original Hip Hop Shop, Detroit
Ladies, this event is for you! The Original Hip Hop Shop in Detroit will be shooting a reality TV show this Saturday night and is encouraging you to come out; with free admission, free champagne and gift bag giveaways, and live local DJs playing fun music all night, it's the perfect way to spend your Valentine's Day. 21+. The 2nd Annual Thirst Wave Black Hearts Ball
Saturday, February 14th / 9pm / Small's, Hamtramck
A flashback dance night! Local DJs, DJ Pleasure Kitten, DJ Elektrosonik, and DJ Aaron Hingst will be spinning new wave, retro alternative, and dark '80s and '90s all night! Expect to hear music from: Soft Cell, The Cure, OMD, The Smiths, David Bowie, and more! There will also be complimentary appetizers, Valentine's Day Treats, and concert ticket giveaways! So, for a fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day in the electronic dance community, Vibe Guru is taking over Elektricity and giving Cupid the day off. If you're single, you will be wearing GREEN glowsticks, and if you're taken, you will be wearing RED glowsticks. Detroit Proud Pick Of The Week: The Punk Rock Winter Formal
Friday, February 13th / 8pm / Magic Stick, Detroit
This will be the FINAL Punk Rock Winter Formal, as the beloved Magic Stick in Detroit will be converting to an all-electronic music venue later this year. Make sure you come out and party the night away with Detroit hard rockers Timmy's Organism, Bill Bondsmen, and Mexican Knives. Tickets are $7 for stag and $10 for couples at the door.
