Detroit Police Shoot, Kill Suspected Kidnapper

Detroit Police say they had to use lethal force in response to a call about a kidnapping in progress overnight.

Police said they stopped a suspect vehicle, around 1:45 a.m. Friday, along Wagner Street, between Cecil and Clipper, when the driver, described as a man in his 20's, pointed an automatic weapon at officers.

That man was shot and killed by police.

A female passenger in the vehicle, also in her 20's, was reportedly unharmed.

Meantime, a 41-year-old Detroit man was shot and killed in his car outside of a west side party store on the corner of Joy Road and Ohio Street around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Nearby residents reported hearing several shots and what sounded like automatic gunfire.  They also saw two men running from the scene.

At this point police said they have no motive and do not know if the man was an intended target, or simply a random victim.
