Detroit Police Seek Person Of Interest In Gas Station Armed Robbery

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are trying to identify a person of interest in connection with a shooting and armed robbery that happened at a gas station on the city's northwest side.

The incident unfolded just after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28 at the Sunoco gas station in the 21000 block of West 8 Mile, just east of Lahser Road.

According to police, the suspect ran toward the 23-year-old victim's vehicle and fired two shots. The suspect entered the vehicle through the passenger door and told the victim to "get out," police said.

As the victim began to ran away, police say another man -- the person of interest -- asked the victim, "What happened, bro?" The victim continued to run and heard three to four more shots fired, according to police.

The suspect eventually fled the scene with the victim's cell phone.

No one was injured.

The suspect, described only as a black male dressed in dark clothing, remains at large.

Police are looking for the person of interest, who might be able to provide more details about the crime. He's described as a black male with a medium complexion, 19- to 20-years-old and 5'8" to 5'10" tall. At the time, he was wearing a black jacket with a hood, khaki cargo pants, black boots.

Police have released a photo of the person of interest, taken from the gas station's surveillance system, in hopes the public might be able to identify him.

The suspect was not captured by the surveillance cameras.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-596-5840 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
