Detroit Police Search For Sisters Who Went Missing From School
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are hoping the public can help locate two sisters who went missing on the city's west side.
Latrina Jolly, the girls' mother, told police she went to pick her daughters up from Erma J. Henderson School around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, but 10-year-old Shania and 12-year-old Janae were nowhere to be found.
Police said both girls were last seen at approximately 4 p.m. leaving the school through the main doors, walking towards Chicago Street. Officers canvassed the area and spoke with family members, but found no trace of the girls.
"I just want my babies to come home. Like I always preach to them, they should never have to be scared to come home, no matter what's going on," an emotional Jolly told WWJ's Mike Campbell.
Jolly told police that her daughters were both suspended from school, leading investigators to believe the girls might have run away. However, family members have their doubts on that theory and believe the girls could be in danger.
"They never ran away before. They always in trouble getting suspended, but they never ran away," Jolly said.
"Yeah, they would never do that," added Rhonda, Jolly's oldest daughter. "My little sister that's the oldest from the youngest, she's too scared to run away. They scared."
Both girls are described as 5'1" tall and 150 lbs. with braided black hair. Shania was last seen wearing a white shirt and black pants. Janae was last seen wearing a white shirt, black pants, black shiny boots and carrying a black purse.
