Detroit Boy Who Never Came Home From School Found Wandering Along Romulus Road

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a 10-year-old Detroit boy who never came home from school Thursday afternoon has been located unharmed.

Malek Nelthrope was found safe just before 7 a.m. Friday morning walking along Middle Belt Road in Romulus.

Bill Kurtzhals, a WWJ Newsradio listener, said he passed the boy as he was driving to work at Detroit Metro Airport, but didn't connect the dots until he heard the missing persons report about Nelthrope.

"When I pulled into the parking lot at work, I heard the description of the missing child and he had a dark blue hoody with a black backpack with lime green stripes, and that's when I decided to call the police," Kurtzhals told WWJ's Laura Bonnell.

Romulus police sent a patrol car out to the area, on Middle Belt between Eureka and Pennsylvania roads, and officers quickly located Nelthrope. He is now being reunited with his family.

Nelthrope was reported missing Thursday, having last been seen around 3:45 p.m. in the area of Cherrylawn and Chippewa, just south of 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue.
