Detroit Police Officer Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide
REDFORD (WWJ) - Detroit police have lost one of their own.
Officials confirmed, Thursday afternoon, that an off-duty officer from the department was found murdered in her home in Redford Township.
Her husband was also found dead Thursday — at the couple's home on Kinloch, near West Chicago and Beech Daly — in what police believe was a murder/suicide.
Redford Police Lt. David Holt said officers were called to the scene on reports of a homicide, and discovered the two bodies a little before noon.
"A family called reporting that an incident had occurred at the house," said Detective Sergeant Kevin Crittenden.
The woman, a veteran patrol officer, had apparently just returned from her overnight shift, police said.
"Domestic situation it appears now," Detroit Police Chief James Craig said in to WDIV-TV. "This has touched many, many in our DPD family."
Neighbors living on Kinloch Street in Redford Township were in shock:
"You don't expect something like this to happen ... around here, in any shape or form. And it's just pretty devastating,' said Paul Cobb, a neighbor.
"We always mowed each other's lawn, shoveled each other's snow ... you know, everything," said Cobb, adding that, "it's pretty harsh being this close."
Neighbors like Dave Lamie said the officer was a wonderful person.
"She came home from work, I talked to her this morning, I said, 'How you doing?' you know ... she said, 'I'm tired,' she took her uniform out of the car and went into the house. That was it - that's the last time I seen her."
The incident is being investigated by Redford Township police as well as Michigan State Police. Holt said investigators are not pursuing any suspects at the time.
Police say they're not looking for any suspects. Neighbors say the couple had three children. One was still in high school.
No names were immediately released.
