Detroit Police Officer Injured In Hit And Run Accident

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit Police officer was the victim of a hit and run driver on the city's southwest side early Saturday morning while he was investigating another hit and run accident.

The officer, whose name hasn't been released, was investigating the scene of a pedestrian accident on Livernois and Pelouze Street, where a woman walking across the street was struck by a car. She was taken to Henry Ford Hospital.

Police say while the officer was talking to a dispatcher, a red Ford Taurus hit him and drove off. The officer was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Investigators say the man who allegedly hit the officer was arrested by Dearborn Police in Detroit when a police dog tracked him a short time later. Police arrested a 25-year-old Dearborn Heights man, who faces charges of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident.
