Detroit Police Make $3.3 Million Drug Bust
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police made a major drug bust at home on the city's west side Friday, getting over $3.3 million worth of illegal drugs off the streets.
Police say their investigation began after they received a tip from a concerned citizen. The tip led officers from the department's Narcotics Enforcement Unit to a residence in the 2000 block of Glynn, just west of the Lodge Freeway.
Sgt. Eren Stephens said officers went to the home around 1:45 p.m. Friday and executed a search warrant, resulting in the confiscation of heroin and cocaine with a street estimate of over $3.3 million.
"The Detroit Police Department's continued goal is to take large quantities of illegal drugs off the streets of Detroit," Police Chief James Craig said in a statement. "I am a firm believer that working together will strengthen and enhance our efforts in combating crime within our community."
Stephens said no one was home at the time of the bust, and it wasn't immediately clear if any criminal charges would be presented.
An investigation is ongoing.
