Detroit Police: Lions And Tigers And City Is Safe
DETROIT (WWJ) - As the World Series continues in Detroit this weekend, local leaders and law enforcement say the city will be safe.
Detroit Police Tactical Operations Commander, Lt. Renee Hall, said many outside agencies are lending their support as both the Tigers and Lions are playing at home on Sunday.
"We know that the world will be watching to see how Detroit handles this World Series, and, like everything, no one does law enforcement better than we do," said Hall. "So we recognize that and we want you to know that we've put all measures in place, we have taken every precaution necessary to make sure that both stadiums will be secure."
Interim Detroit Police Chief Chester Logan said they feel they have sufficient personnel in place with Detroit police and some 22 other local, state and regional law enforcement agencies.
"We have hosted major events like this in the past and we;ve been very successful," said Logan. "Our goal is to provide the same safety for the World Series as we have during these previous events."
But what about the Detroit police union representatives that recently warned visitors about coming into the city? "It's sad that what happened with those leaflets because if you know the Detroit Police Department, you know those officers, those same officers, are going to be out there doing their job."
