Detroit Police Investigate Fatal Shooting In Area Known For Prostitution
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are investigating a fatal shooting in an area that local residents say is known for prostitution.
Investigators say they found a person who was fatally wounded on Parkhurst near Woodward, just north of McNichols, around 6:25 a.m. Tuesday.
Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said the person was dressed in women's clothing, but the department is waiting for the Medical Examination's determination of sex and identification.
Residents tell WWJ's Ron Dewey that they heard one gunshot around 4:30 or 5 a.m. and then a noise before police arrived on the scene.
Darrell Summers, who recently moved into the neighborhood, said the number of male prostitutes that do business in the area is disturbing. He thinks the shooting was a case of a transaction gone bad.
"It could be the possibility where they're dealing with another guy and the guy could just happen to figure out it's a man, and you know, of course something is going to happen," said Summers.
Police are now speaking with potential witnesses and are scouring the neighborhood, trying to piece together exactly what unfolded.
Stephens said no arrests have been made in the case, as the circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.
