Detroit Police Investigate Deadly Accident On City's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating a car accident on the city's east side that killed two people and injured three children.

The accident happened just before midnight Friday near Conner and East Outer Drive. Police say a man and woman were sitting in the car's front seats with three children -- ages 8, 9 and 10 --  in the back seat.

According to investigators, the car was traveling northbound on Conner, possibly at a high rate of speed, when it crossed over the southbound lane and hit a tree on the other side of the street.

The man died at the scene, while the woman was taken to the hospital where she later died. All three children were taken to the hospital, where one remains in critical condition. The conditions of the other two children are unknown, although police said they are expected to be okay.

Police have not released any of the victims' identities or their relationship to one another.

An investigation is ongoing.
