Detroit Police Chief: $1Million In Drugs Seized
DETROIT (WWJ) - Over a million dollars in illegal drugs have been taken off the streets of Detroit.
Police Chief Ralph Godbee said the department's narcotics unit raided 43 homes, arrested 87 people and confiscated illegal drugs, weapons, vehicles and cash over a three-day period.
Godbee said this not only makes a dent in drug dealing, but a dent in violent crime as well.
"The narcotics trade, as we know, is not like the stock market," Godbee told reporters, in announcing the bust on Thursday. "The way it correct itself -- it corrects itself with AK47s and it corrects itself with 9-milimeters. So, that's the industry. That's the way they do on the street.
"And the work these men and women do, that's why it's so significant," he said.
In one instance, a suspect opened fire on two officers.
The raid took place June 6-9.
Godbee said the value of all cash and items seized totaled $1.3 million.
