Police: Sleeping 10-Year-Old Boy Stabbed In Back After Argument With Younger Brother

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating after a 10-year-old boy was stabbed at his home on the city's west side -- and the prime suspect is the boy's 8-year-old brother.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Coyle Street, in a neighborhood near Greenfield and Joy roads.

Police tell WWJ the 10-year-old boy was sleeping when he was apparently stabbed by his younger brother. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the stabbing, but police say the brothers got into an argument on Monday that might have contributed.

The older boy was rushed to a local hospital and was last reported in stable condition. The younger boy was also transported to a hospital for a psychological evaluation.

The boys' mother was home during the incident, according to police. Two other children, ages 7 and 11, who were present in the room when the stabbing took place were uninjured.

Child Protective Services and the Detroit Police child abuse unit both responded to the home. An investigation is ongoing.

April, the children's aunt, spoke to police at the scene but did not want to reveal anything.

"I have no idea what's going on. I just came over to offer support and I'm on my way down to the hospital to see what's going on with my little nephew," she said.

Eugene White was stunned to hear about what happened at his neighbor's house.

"They good people, I can't say nothing bad about them. The kids played along with each other, they're friendly, their parents always speak to me and stuff like that," said White. "This is just shocking to me.
