Detroit Police Aim For Less Tempting Targets For Arsonists Around Halloween
DETROIT (WWJ) - As the city prepares for Angels' Night, a crackdown of abandoned vehicles parked on Detroit streets continues.
Anthony Careathers with the Detroit Police Department says about 500 abandoned vehicles have been removed from city streets since August.
"We get a lot of vehicles, such as the one we are about to tow, that have just been sitting out on the street - the plates may be expired, the tires may be flat - the vehicle is just obviously impaired," said Careathers.
By clearing the streets of abandoned vehicles, the Detroit Police Department feels arsonists will have fewer targets around Halloween.
"I'm not trying to figure out how it got here," said Careathers. "My job is to find out if there is a violation - to take care of it."
