Detroit Photographer Reflects On Mandela
DETROIT (WWJ) - An international photographer from Detroit is reflecting on her experiences with the South African leader. Monica Morgan shot pictures of Nelson Mandela on his 90th birthday... as he blew out his candles.
And while Morgan says she is glad he is finally at rest, it's hard for her to talk as tears stream down her face.
"I just didn't believe it would happen. I knew that it was meant to be, but to actually be there during that moment when he blew out the candles on his cake, it's just another dream come true," says Morgan.
Morgan says the South African man will always be a legend.
"There'll never be another person like Nelson Mandela. He was so strong. And he fought against White domination, he fought against Black domination, he just believed in people," says Morgan.
Morgan says her plans are now to return to South Africa to continue to mourn Mandela's death.
