Detroit People Mover Reopens After 'Utility Malfunction'
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit People Mover has reopened after a hours-long shutdown Thursday morning.
The Detroit Transportation Corporation said People Mover service resumed around 11 a.m. after the all-clear was issued by DTE Energy and engineers determined the system is safe.
The Times Square station, however, will remain closed until further notice until clean-up is complete.
Officials had shut down the tram just before 7 a.m. due to a "utility malfunction" in downtown Detroit, which affected the system.
It wasn't immediately clear if the malfunction is related to a series of reported explosions that forced the evacuation of the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel overnight. The blasts, which were heard several blocks away, were apparently the result of a blown underground DTE Energy transformer.
