Detroit Officer Shot While Investigating Previous Shooting
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a Detroit officer was shot in the back of her protective vest when the patrol car she was riding in was fired upon.
Police say around 11:10 p.m. Thursday, the officer and her partner were investigating a non-fatal shooting that happened near Ferry Park and Linwood earlier in the evening. The officers were searching for a gunman in the area when someone opened fire and a bullet went through the officers' unmarked vehicle, according to police.
Police said the 14-year veteran was hit, but the bullet did not penetrate her protective vest. She was driven to a hospital by her partner for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The officer's name wasn't immediately released. There was no word early Friday about whether arrests were made in either shooting.
