Detroit Museum To Show Nearly 2,300 Paintings Of Obama
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit museum plans to show nearly 2,300 paintings of President Barack Obama by New York artist Rob Pruitt this spring.
Since Obama's inauguration on January 20, 2009, Pruitt has created a 2'x2' painting of the President every single day, with particular imagery drawn from the news of that day. He plans to keep making them until the end of the president's second term.
As the project continues, Pruitt will exhibit "The Obama Paintings" created so far at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit starting May 15.
In a statement, Pruitt says Detroit is a "great place to unveil this work." Detroit emerged from bankruptcy in December and Pruitt says he believes "its problems with employment and opportunity reflect those of the entire country, but greatly magnified."
