Detroit Mourns 3-Year-Old Girl Who Died In Fire
DETROIT (WWJ) - An eastside Detroit church was packed for the funeral of a 3-year-old girl who died last week in a house fire. Ivory Ivey was laid to rest on Wednesday at Peace Chapel Funeral Home.
Cousin Charletta Napier says the family is struggling with the belief that the fire truck was not equipped to help fight the fire the day Ivey died.
"The guys were in training," said Napier. "They didn't send a fire truck with a fire hose or anything ... it was helpless, just like the family was, helpless," she said.
WWJ's Marie Osborne spoke with family member Michael Jinverso who called the girl's death a tragedy.
"It's really bad ... you know, she was a bueutiful little girl. It's just sad that she had to go like she did. I wish somebody could have been there to really help her ... to get her out from the smoke," Jinverso said.
Officials believe Ivey's sister accidentally set fire to the house while playing with a lighter.
