Detroit Mom Was Fatally Stabbed, Baby In Crib Nearby

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 31-year-old Detroit woman whose body was found near her dehydrated 8-month-old daughter was stabbed to death.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Charmanek Johnson, and said she had multiple stab wounds. Her death is listed as a homicide.

Police found Johnson's body around 9 a.m. Monday inside her home in the 4000 block of Hazelwood Street, near 1-96 and Joy Road. They were contacted by Johnson's mother, who said she hadn't heard from her daughter in days.

The baby, who was found dehydrated in a crib nearby her mother's corpse, was taken to a local hospital for observation. Police Sgt. Michael Woody said privacy rules prevent him from revealing the baby's current condition.

No one has been arrested yet, and police have not identified any suspects. An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
