Detroit Mom Involved In Police Standoff Due In Court
DETROIT (WWJ) - A local mom who says she was just trying to protect her daughter has her day in court.
The preliminary exam for Maryanne Godboldo gets underway at 9am Thursday at 36th District Court. She's accused of discharging a weapon and felonious assault stemming from a 12-hour standoff with police in March. She says officers failed to produce a warrant when they arrived at her home to remove her 13-year-old daughter.
The mother had been at odds with the Department of Human Services over whether the teen should continue to take anti-psychotic medication. After the standoff with police, the teen was placed in a psychiatric hospital. The girl has since been released and is now with a relative.
A spokesman for the family says Godboldo has received support from people around the world.
