ROMULUS (CBS Detroit) - Virgin Atlantic Airways announced additional information Wednesday about the new Detroit to London Heathrow service that starts this summer.
The new daily flight is one of up to 39 flights Virgin and Delta Air Lines is offering between the United Kingdom and 15 destinations in North America, including Detroit.
"The Delta and Virgin Atlantic partnership continues to offer increased customer choice on the trans-Atlantic routes to London Heathrow ," said Perry Cantarutti, Delta's Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East and Africa in a release. "The strength of Delta's network in the United States and Virgin Atlantic's strong presence at London Heathrow delivers a very compelling proposition that allows customers in the U.K. to easily connect to more than 200 destinations in the United States."
The two airlines will begin their summer schedule this weekend, with the Detroit flights beginning June 1. Flight VS107 will depart London Heathrow at 10.10 a.m. and arrive in Detroit at 1:15 p.m., with flight VS108 departing Detroit at 5.50 p.m. and arriving in London Heathrow at 6:25 a.m. the next day.
Customers looking to book these flights can visit Delta and Virgin Atlantic's websites, or by visiting their travel agent.
Virgin Atlantic – an airline known for stylish flight attendant uniforms – is taking over the summer-only service Delta Air Lines previously operated. The Detroit Lions got an early jump on the new service when they took a chartered Virgin Atlantic plane to England for their October game at Wembley Stadium.
