Detroit Metro Airport To Expand 'Fraud Line'
ROMULUS (WWJ) - Metro Airport is expanding the number of eyes and ears on the lookout for waste, fraud and other improprieties.
WWJ's Ron Dewey says the Airport Authority will soon expand their "Fraud Line" beyond airport employees to vendors and the general public.
Audit committee chair Sam Nouhan said the idea rose a year and a half ago, before the Turkia Mullin dust-up and the resignation of airport authority chair Renee Axt over conflict-of-interest disclosures.
"A large contractor at the airport felt like there wasn't a way for that contractor to express complaints about the way they were being asked to perform on their contract," he said.
Nouhan acknowledges the phone line and webpage could be used for complaints by frustrated travelers, but says they will design it so those calls can be weeded out.
"Since I've been on the audit committee for a couple of years, we have typically received one or two fraud complaints that have been reported to us and maybe half of those have really been more disgruntled employee type complaints rather than actual fraud or waste complaints."
Nouhan said they will expand their current employee fraud line for everybody to call if they suspect possible fraud, waste or other misdeeds.
