Detroit Marked By Google As 1 of 7 Tech Hub Hotspots

DETROIT (WWJ) - A tech start-up neighborhood, the Madison Block, has launched in downtown Detroit.

It's a collaboration with Google for entrepreneurs where start-ups are locating in Broderick Tower on Woodward and Madison.

"Our belief is that by backing passionate entrepreneurs - it's not just an economic gain although that does exist - it's an opportunity to create jobs urban density and hope," said CEO of Detroit Venture Partners Josh Linkner.

Grand Circus CEO Damien Rocchi  says Detroit is one of seven cities with this Google partnership.

"What that means is access to a Google developer start-up kit which involves credits on substantial Google products and other deals. It involves invitations to Google events and Google partner events," said Rocchi .

Rocchi  says Grand Circus is offering training in the latest skills in web and mobile development business and design.

Google's Director of Business and Industrial Markets Mike Miller tells WWJ that supporting tech hubs is a cornerstone of the program.

"We are sponsoring tech hubs, essentially places where innovation and entrepreneurship are taking place," said Miller.

Compared to other tech hubs he says there is a big sense of determination in Detroit.
