Detroit Man Sentenced In Triple Kidnapping, Rape
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ/AP) - A 21-year-old Detroit-area man who was charged in the sexual assault of three women inside a carjacked van has been sentenced to 15 to 45 years in prison.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Tonio Dace was sentenced Monday.
Dace faced charges including three counts each of kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and armed robbery. He also faced a single count of carjacking.
Prosecutors said the four women were leaving a Hamtramck bar early one more in Match when Dace, armed with a gun, jumped into their van. One of the women was able to escape before Dace ordered the other three to get in to drive away.
Police said Dace directed the women to an alley behind some vacant homes where he sexually assaulted all three. Following the attack, he forced them to drive to a gas station to withdraw cash from an ATM.
The victims were a 33-year old Lincoln Park woman, two Detroit women ages 28 and 34, and a 30-year-old Hamtramck woman.
Police later located the van and arrested the suspect.
Hamtramck police credited the speedy arrest in part to a quick-thinking gas station attendant who called authorities after one of the women whispered that she needed help.
