Detroit Man Charged With Shooting Baby's Mother, Another Man In Front Of Son
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 26-year-old Detroit man is facing several charges, including attempted murder, stemming from a double shooting that took place in front of his 5-year-old son.
Michael Joseph Brown was arraigned Friday on three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felonious assault and one count of felony firearm in connection with the shooting. Bond was set at $250,000.
Officials say the incident started as a domestic situation around 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the 14300 block of Cruse, in a west side neighborhood near Grand River and Schoolcraft avenues.
Brown allegedly ordered the mother of his 5-year-old son to turn the child over to him, but she refused. It's alleged that Brown then got into his car and followed the 24-year-old woman, who was driving with a 24-year-old man and her son.
At some point, Brown stopped and exited his vehicle. Police say Brown then approached the woman's vehicle from behind and begin firing shots into the passenger side of the car -- striking both the woman and the man. The child was uninjured.
Although the pair was injured, they were able to drive to a nearby police precinct and report the incident. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment and were listed in temporary-serious condition.
The suspect information was broadcast to officers in the area and shortly thereafter, Brown was arrested.
Brown is due back in court for a preliminary exam on July 24.
"Due to Detroit Police Officers quick response, another dangerous criminal has been taken off the street," police said in a statement. "We will continue our commitment to serving the citizens of the city of Detroit by bringing criminals to justice."
