Detroit Man Charged With Murder In Mother's Strangling
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 24-year-old Detroit man has been charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation death of his 57-year-old mother in the home they shared on the city's east side.
Wayne County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miler said Thursday that Detroit police checking on Ellen Aubrey's welfare found her dead Tuesday in the 6000 block of Casmere, near Mound Rd.and Mt. Elliot, after neighbors reported they hadn't seen her for several days.
Police Sgt. Michael Woody told The Detroit News that her body was in the basement, wrapped in a blanket.
After identifying the woman and speaking with neighbors, police were led to believe her stepson might be involved with her death.
When officers found the suspect, John W. Aubrey parked at a Warren gas station, but he fled, according to police.
The Detroit Free Press reported police staked out a woman's house and arrested him there Wednesday without further incident.
Prosecutors, who said Ellen Aubrey died at around 10 p.m. Sunday, have not disclosed a possible motive for the killing.
