Detroit Man Charged In Shooting That Killed Relatives, Injured Daughter
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Detroit man has been charged in the shooting deaths of his aunt and grandmother, and the critical wounding of his 7-year-old daughter.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ferdarius Shine with two counts of first degree murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder, and one count of felony firearm. He's due back in court for a preliminary exam on Feb. 28.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Feb. 15 at a home in the 13500 block of Winthrop Street, near Greenfield Road on the city's west
Worthy said Shine entered the home around 6:30 p.m., armed with a handgun and began shooting at everyone in the house.
Officers responding to the gunfire said they found 49-year-old Santangela Williams, 68-year-old Geraldine Bates, both of Detroit, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The women were transported to a local hospital by medics and pronounced dead on arrival.
Shine's 7-year-old daughter suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound and was rushed to the hospital. Two other adults females in the home at the time of the incident were uninjured.
Shine is alleged to have fled the scene on foot and hours later checked himself into a local hospital, where he was detained and arrested.
Investigators say Shine, who is mentally disabled, has a concealed weapons permit. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered by police.
Reports say Shine was off of his prescribed medication at the time of the shooting.
