Detroit Man Charged In Death Of 3-year-old Girl
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 21-year old Detroit man has been arraigned on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of a 3-year old girl inside her home on July 10.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says it's a "classic example of the truly innocent being literally gunned down by the truly ignorant."
Lieutenant Dwayne Blackmon said Devin Taylor lived on the same street, and had an issue with the child's family.
"I'm not sure of the exact details. I do know it was an ongoing dispute that day and it escalated ... I can't say who he was aiming at. Only thing I can tell you is that Aarie Berry was struck with bullets and because of that she is deceased," Blackmon said.
Raphael B. Johnson is president of the group Detroit 300, who went door-to-door looking for tips in the case. WWJ's Sandra McNeil asked him with the dispute was about.
"Senseless, idiotic, inconsequential B.S., and I'm saying that very lightly," said Johnson. "Whatever it was over it was not worth the life of Aarie Berry, a 3-yesr-old girl minding her own business to be taken out and snuffed out of life."
Police credit Detroit 300 and neighbors who gave them tips leading to Taylor's arrest.. He's charged with first degree murder.
