Detroit Man Arrested On Terrorism Charges
A Detroit man has been arrested in Amsterdam on terrorism charges. Ahmed Al-Soofi, along with another man, Hezem Al Murisi, were taken off a Chicago-to-Amsterdam United Airlines flight.
According to ABC News, the pair has been charged by Dutch police with "preparation of a terrorist attack."
U.S. officials said the two appeared to be travelling with what were termed "mock bombs" in their luggage.
"This was almost certainly a dry run, a test," an official said.
A Dutch prosecutor said the arrests were made "at the request of the American authorities."
Airport officials in Birmingham, Alabama, stopped al Soofi and referred him to additional screening due to concerns over his bulky clothing, but he was allowed to board a plane at Chicago O'Hare Airport anyway.
An investigation is ongoing.
