Detroit Firefighters Injured Battling Store Blaze
DETROIT (WWJ) - Two Detroit firefighters were seriously injured battling a blaze Wednesday night on the city's east side.
It happened at a two-story commercial building on East Ferry and Chene at the Ideal Market, where firefighters were trying to break open windows when chunks of the wall fell on them. One of the firefighters was on a ladder at the time, the other on the ground securing the ladder when hot bricks started falling. One of the firefighters had to be dragged to safety before both were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Crews also reportedly had water issues with either the hydrant or the trucks, which allowed the fire to spread through the building. The cause of the fire is not known.
