Detroit Firefighter Hurt While Fighting House Fire

A Detroit firefighter has been injured in a house fire on Strathmoor, near Tyler, on the city's northwest side.

The Monday evening fire apparently started in the kitchen area of the house, and quickly turned into a raging inferno. The woman that lives there managed to escape, along with her cat.

Four firemen were attempting to get out of the fire when one fire fighter got his face mask stuck in a window. When he pulled up the face mask, he was severely burned.

He was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital, condition unknown.

Suspect In Fire That Injured Several Firefighters Appears In Court Today

The man accused of deliberately setting the fire last August that injured several Detroit firefighters faces a judge today.

30-year-old Samson Wright appears in federal court for a preliminary hearing today. He reportedly told investigators someone paid him $500 to set the fire, with the promise of $15,000. Wright has a history of mental illness and had to undergo a psychological examination. If convicted, he faces seven to 14 years in prison.
