Detroit FBI Chief Stepping Down After Year On Job
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - The special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit division plans to step down after a year on the job.
Robert Foley told the Detroit Free Press on Monday that the decision was related to the health of a family member. Foley said he'll relocate to Florida and work in the FBI's Tampa office
"We don't have any family here. The best thing for me to do is to step down," Foley said.
Foley plans to step down within 45 days. He formerly was special agent in charge of the administrative division in the Washington field office. He became an FBI agent in 1996, working in Connecticut. He later worked in Puerto Rico, Arizona and Kentucky.
Foley said his time in Detroit was "the culmination, the highlight of my career and the best experience I've had as an FBI officer."
Despite moving across the country, Foley said he will remain an advocate for the Motor City.
"I fell in love with the people, their worth ethic, their strength," he said. "Despite the many challenging economic issues here … Detroit will turn around. It's a place full of hope, inspiration and hard work that will get it to turn around."
His replacement has not been named yet.
